By nature of Alabama’s lopsided winning margins, QB Tua Tagovailoa has not yet thrown a pass in the fourth quarter of a game this season.

As the season shifts to October, Heisman Trophy voters will be reviewing Tagovailoa’s performances as one of the best players for the No. 1 team in the country, and also the quarterback, two positions that often yield Heisman consideration.

As long as Alabama continues to rout opponents, Tagovailoa’s numbers should keep pace with other Heisman contenders who otherwise play four quarters each week.

Several of the other contenders, from Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, West Virginia’s Will Grier, and Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray will likely be ahead of Tagovailoa when votes are submitted. As it stands now, Tagovailoa is only 39th in the country in passing yards.

It seems this debate will center on production versus value, but perhaps efficiency as well.

Many figure Tagovailoa won’t throw a fourth-quarter pass until Nov. 3 against LSU, and by then it may be a moot point. Or he may make it moot by his performances down the stretch from there. These stats come via Michael Casagrande of AL.com.
