Mississippi State hasn’t started the season the way it hoped, but it can potentially get back on track when it hosts No. 8 Auburn on Saturday.

The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back losses to Kentucky and Florida, but a win over the Tigers would certainly provide a confidence boost.

In order to pull off that victory, Mississippi State will likely need improved play from its offense. And quarterback Nick Fitzgerald knows what his team needs to do for that to happen.

“It’s really just consistency,” Fitzgerald told the media on Tuesday. “There are times I’m making the throw that needs to be made, times I’m not. We’re catching balls and dropping balls. Overall, all-around just consistency that we have to work on. You saw in the first three games how explosive this offense can be when we are consistent and we’re just doing our jobs. We’ve got to get back to that.”

The Bulldogs scored 31 or more points in each of their first three games, all wins against non-conference opponents. Then, they lost to Kentucky, 28-7, before falling to Florida, 13-6.

It could be a challenge for Mississippi State’s offense to get back on track as Auburn has a strong defense.

“Great D-line, I think that their D-line is kind of like ours,” Fitzgerald told the media. “They’re going to put a lot of pressure on you, bringing three or four.”

The Bulldogs and Tigers are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
