Mississippi State had a rough start to its conference schedule, but the Bulldogs bounced back on Saturday with their best win under first-year coach Joe Moorhead so far.

After losses to Kentucky and Florida, Mississippi State upset Auburn on Saturday, 23-9. The Bulldogs moved back into the AP Top 25 poll at No. 24 following the victory.

Moorhead was pleased with Mississippi State’s performance, and he shared that with his players in a heartfelt postgame speech in the locker room.

“I am so proud of this football team right now, I can’t even describe it in words,” Moorhead said near the beginning of his speech. “Because you know why? We came in on Day One and we talked about the things that were necessary for us to be successful — preparation, effort and execution. One play at a time for 60 minutes at a championship standard.”

Mississippi State has a bye next week before returning to action on Oct. 20 with a road matchup against LSU.
