The boos came from the South Carolina faithful in Williams-Brice Stadium early in the first quarter against Texas A&M as QB Jake Bentley struggled out of the gate.

The South Carolina quarterback had a couple of passes sail over his receiving targets in the first quarter, but then his receivers had a rash of drops later in the first half.

Like the rest of the team, Bentley had a big third quarter, and finished 17-for-35 passing for 223 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. But at halftime, he was 6-for-17 for 46 yards, which brought the frustration from fans. A troubling stat at halftime was WR Deebo Samuel had one catch for one yard on three targets.

After the game, Bentley shrugged off the boos, and said he can’t let it bother him.

“That’s life,” Bentley said, according to The Big Spur. “That’s the way I’ve been brought up is you can’t worry about outside influences. Other people are going to come after you each and every way and you just have to focus on what you believe in and surround yourself with great people. My teammates came up to me saying they have my back and to keep my head up and get through it. I would say the support from my teammates had the biggest impact. Obviously it’s disappointing to hear that from the fans, but they just want to win too and so do I.”

For his part, coach Will Muschamp said he didn’t consider pulling Bentley for backup Michael Scarnecchia, though that will certainly be a hot topic in the next two weeks as South Carolina is off next week.
