Kentucky WR Zy’Aire Hughes doesn’t have a catch this season, and yet with just one touch on offense, he’s doing something that’s going to leave most football fans scratching their heads.

Hughes is averaging infinite yards per catch.

The sophomore wideout can thank a trick play to his unusual stat line.

In Week 3 against Murray State, running back Benny Snell received a snap in the “wildcat” formation. Snell flipped the ball to quarterback Terry Wilson, who was running in motion behind the offensive line. Then, Wilson handed the ball off to Hughes on a reverse. Hughes scampered down the field for a 43-yard touchdown.

On the play, the official stats credited Wilson with a reception and 6-yard loss. Therefore, Hughes received credit for 49 receiving yards and yet no reception.

With that still being his only offensive touch this season, that’s why his yards per catch average is infinite. But don’t be surprised if he gets more chances in the second half of the season.

“He’s a special talent, and everybody wants to talk about how fast he is but that’s just an extra benefit to his game,” Kentucky wide receivers coach Michael Smith said according to The Courier-Journal. “I think he’s a good wide receiver. He catches the ball well, he’s got great hips. … You have a bye week and you go back and reevaluate where you are and what you can do better as a coaching staff and as an offense. All the players, we evaluate them and say, ‘Hey, we’ve got to start getting this guy the ball.’ Hopefully we’ll start doing some of those things with him down the road.”
