Jake Fromm has experienced two drastically different games against Florida in his young career as Georgia’s quarterback.

But coming off of a loss to LSU in what was widely believed as his worst game at Georgia, Fromm rebounded with a 17-for-24 passing performance with 240 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Florida on Saturday.

One key drive came when Fromm led the Bulldogs 75 yards over seven plays for a field goal at the end of the half. And of course the game-changing drive came when he found WR Terry Godwin streaking to the corner of the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown with 8:39 left in the fourth quarter.

“I thought Jake is a competitor,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said, according to 247 Sports. “You know, Jake works as hard as anybody on our team and he believes in the players around him. He understands what we’re trying to do offensively, and he did a good job of dealing out the ball when he had an opportunity and he made some big throws tonight to some guys that were open and to some guys that were in tight coverage. Jake continues to get better.”

Smart added that he made the decision to play Fromm the entire game because at all positions, practice performance dictates how much game time is awarded. Fan criticism mounted during the bye week, as many looked for freshman backup QB Justin Fields to play more against Florida than he did against LSU.

“But the outside noise probably affects the players a lot more than it affects me,” Smart said of criticism over the two weeks since the LSU loss. “Because I have to make decisions based on what affects our organization the right way. Jake Fromm is a high-character kid who works his every day and I’m sure he felt and heard the noise. And Jake Fromm continues to work and get better. Justin Fields continues to work and get better, too. For the last two weeks, that kid got a lot of reps and he got better. I’m disappointed he didn’t get an opportunity to play and I’m sure he is, too. But he is a competitor and he continues to get better. We have a situation where we have two of what I think are really good quarterbacks.”
