Danny Kanell seemingly enjoys to be a spur in the saddle of SEC fans, and his latest argument may make Georgia fans sit up and take notice.

Kanell on CBS Sports used Central Florida as a key element to his argument to expand the College Football Playoff to eight teams. Without that many teams, Kanell said a “team like UCF” can’t have a legit chance.

“Because now they don’t, and that’s a travesty,” he said. “The biggest argument I have about UCF is, ‘Oh, they’d get blown away by teams like Alabama and Clemson.’ You know who else gets blown away by Alabama and Clemson? Every other team on their schedule.”

Kanell argued that the Knights could go “toe-to-toe” with Georgia just like Oklahoma did last year in the Rose Bowl.

“You didn’t hear anybody complain about that game, when Georgia gave up over 500 yards of total offense, nobody had a problem with that,” he said. “And Oklahoma almost won with an incredible offense and a sub-par defense. Does that sound familiar? That’s exactly what UCF has.”

Kanell called QB McKenzie Milton one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and when the Knights go up tempo, they’re used to getting scored on.

“Georgia’s not,” he said. “That game would come down to the wire just the same way the Rose Bowl did. And I don’t want to hear anymore about ‘Hey, the team didn’t want to be there.’ So if your reward for UCF is to give them some garbage, after thought New Year’s Six, how about giving them a real chance at a playoff, and let’s get this thing to eight and see what UCF could do.”

As with most things related to Kanell, the feedback may be more interesting than the original argument, so stay tuned.
