Alabama RB Damien Harris didn’t hold back his emotions following the national championship loss to Clemson as he recounted many of the accomplishments for the program during his career.

His emotions were noticed coming off the field, and Harris said he thought about the first time he stepped on the field.

“It’s been a fun ride,” he said. “Even though it didn’t end the way we wanted it to. … We would have liked to go out on a better note. But it’s been a tremendous opportunity to be a part of this program. For four years, we’re one of the winningest classes in college football history. Two times national champions, three time SEC champions, we’ve accomplished a lot of things as a team. It hurts not to win this game. But we’ve still got a lot to be proud of ourselves for. It sucks that it’s over.

Harris had 11 carries for 57 yards against Clemson in loss on Monday, and two catches for three yards.

“It’s been the best experience of my life,” Harris said, fighting back tears. “I just hate knowing that this is my last opportunity playing with this team. It sucks losing, but the biggest thing is knowing that I won’t be able to step on the field with this team again.”

Harris, of course, passed up the NFL Draft to return for his senior season. Harris totaled 3,013 career yards to rank eighth all-time at Alabama and one of eight backs to break the 3,000-yard mark.
