UPDATE: Deangelo Gibb has enrolled in class for the spring semester at Tennessee.

Tennessee landed a big-time transfer Thursday night, per Rivals’ Jesse Simonton.

Former Georgia safety Deangelo Gibbs (Loganville, Ga.) has transferred to the Vols, and he’ll start his UT career at wide receiver. Gibbs will almost certainly have to sit out the 2019 season due to the transfer rule.

The sophomore was rated a 4-star prospect and signed with UGA in the class of 2017. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 4 overall safety and the state of Georgia’s No. 6 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Bulldogs originally beat out Alabama for the top 50 overall prospect’s signature.

Gibbs left the UGA team earlier last season, and he faded to the back on Georgia’s defensive backfield depth chart. Gibbs, however, appears to be changing positions at Tennessee, and that may help him have an impact in the SEC.
