Coach O is about to land some extra security in Baton Rouge.
Pending LSU board approval, Ed Orgeron is going to have his contract extended by two seasons and be given $500,000 extra for each season to coach in Baton Rouge. It’s a deal that makes sense in many respects, for all parties, after Orgeron led LSU to a 10-win season in 2018, which included a Fiesta Bowl win over the defending fraudulent national champions from UCF.
If approved by LSU’s board, which is set to meet Wednesday in Baton Rouge, Orgeron’s deal in Baton Rouge would extend to the 2023 season and be worth $4 million annually, up from $3.5 million. The full details of Orgeron’s proposed new deal have been shared online by Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated.
While Orgeron may have earned a bad rap following his disastrous run as Ole Miss head coach from 2005-2007, he has had an impressive run at LSU which includes a 25-9 overall mark and 15-7 SEC record as head coach in Baton Rouge. He has yet to lose a game as LSU’s coach when up at halftime, he’s 20-0 in those contests.
