The Michigan State Spartans defeated the LSU Tigers in Friday night’s Sweet 16 matchup 80-63.

It was apparent from the get-go that MSU was going to be tough to upset. The Spartans jumped out to a 40-28 lead at halftime, and they dominated the Tigers on the boards 21-10. And things didn’t change too much in the second half.

LSU did go on a 13-0 run to end the first half and into the second to cut the lead to just four points, but Michigan State jumped back out to a 15-point lead rather quickly. The Spartans never looked back.

Tremont Waters led the Tigers with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Naz Reid scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Four different Michigan State players finished in double figures, with Aaron Henry leading the way with 20 points.

Michigan State advances to the Elite 8 and will play the winner of Duke-Virginia Tech.
