When Bruce Pearl wasn’t asked about his animated personality on the sidelines or the fact that he sweats through every suit, he fielded questions about facing No. 1 Virginia during Tuesday’s press conference.

Pearl’s Tigers face a tough task of facing the only No. 1 seed left in the NCAA Tournament in the Cavaliers, a team that has lost just three games the entire season heading into Saturday’s Final Four.

The Tigers head coach was asked what his team has to do in order to emerge victorious.

“First of all we got to handle the moment,” Pearl said. “We can’t change who we are, and that’s all of us. It’s going to be a big stage and an elevated floor, and are we going to play between the lines like we have been playing? Easier said than done.

“The second thing would be — just simply again — the efficiencies that Virginia plays with, the physicality they play with,” Pearl said. “They play defense physically with their hands and their bodies. They screen and use screens as well as anybody.

“They won’t call a moving screen because they move on every one of them,” Pearl pointed out. “They can’t call them every time so we’ve just got to figure out a way to navigate through the best screening team we have ever seen.

“They have got great personnel and they have got a Hall of Fame coaching family between Dick (Bennett) and Tony (Bennett) and so many other family members,” Pearl said. “That’s a tall task.”

No team is playing more inspired basketball than Auburn. The Tigers are on a 12-game winning streak, and they have beaten powerhouses Kansas, UNC and Kentucky in the last three games.

Auburn faces Virginia Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 6:09 p.m. ET.
