The good news for Alabama is that early enrollee WR John Metchie (Hightstown, NJ) is going to be a big-time player. The bad news for Metchie is that the Tide’s WR corps is absolutely loaded with returning star-power.

It’s unlikely that Metchie will make a big impact in 2019 — except unless the injury bug hits the group, but he certainly adds major depth to the position.

Metchie, who had five catches for 133 yards Saturday, won the Dixie Howell Award as the A-Day MVP.

Saturday’s big day for Metchie was just the latest “big day” for the freshman. He has played well in two other scrimmages leading into A-Day, and he’s a name for Alabama fans to know for the future.

The 4-star pass catcher was the only receiver Alabama signed during the 2019 recruiting cycle.
