Former Florida masher Pete Alonso has already broken a rookie record for the Mets.

On Sunday, Alonso hit his 27th bomb of the season to break the Mets rookie home run record. What’s most impressive about this record is that the MLB hasn’t even hit mid-season yet.

Alonso broke Darryl Strawberry’s record set in 1983. With it being just June 23, Alonso is on pace to pass the 50-home run mark. That’s just incredible … for a rookie.

So, what’s next? Well, the NL rookie record was set in 2017 by Cody Bellinger (39). The all-time rookie record was also set in 2017 by Aaron Judge.

The Mets are nine games back in the NL East behind the Atlanta Braves.

The Mets drafted Alonso in the second round (64th overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft. He signed for just under $1 million at the time.
