Julian Fleming, the nation’s No. 1 WR, committed to Ohio State on May 31, 2019.

However, he strongly considered Alabama prior to his commitment, even visiting the Tide last before making his decision. Fleming, from Catawissa, Pennsylvania, is the nation’s No. 5 overall player for the class of 2020, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Evidently, Alabama’s coaching changes had a big impact on Fleming’s decision not to commit to the Crimson Tide, and he discussed as much during last week’s The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas.

“Their coaching has been inconsistent,” Fleming said, via AL.com. “I’ve been recruited by two, three coaches there. You know, I want someone I can rely on.”

Nick Saban made several changes to the Tide’s coaching staff this year. Seven new coaches are now at Alabama from a year ago, and that certainly impacts recruiting. Fleming would like to have a consistent position coach in college.

“That’s a stepping stone for coaches now,” Fleming said. “They’re going to Alabama and they’re moving up, because that’s just the process they go through. You know, Nick Saban is going to be there and is going to be reliable, but ultimately it was about I needed someone to coach me.”

At Ohio State, Fleming will be coached by Brian Hartline, who played for Ohio State and the Dolphins in the NFL.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound pass catcher projects to be an impact player immediately in college.
