Arkansas’ defensive depth has taken another hit.

According to a report by Rivals.com’s Andrew Hutchinson, Hogs LB Giovanni LaFrance has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The redshirt junior linebacker played in nine games last season recording three tackles.

LaFrance redshirted his freshman season in 2016 and played in just two games during his redshirt freshman season in 2017. He recorded one tackle. In addition to playing linebacker, LaFrance has played mostly special teams.

The 6-foot-1, 237-pounder from New Orleans, Louisiana, was rated a 3-star prospect in the class of 2016, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 32 inside linebacker and the state of Louisiana’s No. 45 overall prospect.

If LaFrance decides to transfer, the Hogs will have just eight remaining linebackers on scholarship. It’s also worth noting that just because he’s entered the transfer portal doesn’t mean he’ll transfer. However, it does allow teams to contact him about a potential transfer.
