The Georgia Bulldogs are looking for playmakers at the receiver position, and it may have found one in 5-star freshman George Pickens (Hoover, Ala.).

Pickens originally committed to Auburn during the 2019 recruiting cycle, but he flipped to Georgia on National Signing Day, one of the biggest surprises in the country. Pickens was ranked as the nation’s No. 26 overall player, the No. 4 receiver and the state of Alabama’s No. 1 prospect for the class of 2019, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-4, 190-pound pass catcher has been making some noise during fall camp, too. Video has emerged from Georgia’s scrimmage Saturday of Pickens making an unbelievable leaping one-handed grab on a pass from quarterback Stetson Bennett. Pickens twists his body and makes the one-handed grab out of nowhere.

Somehow, he managed to come down with the backhanded catch.

The emergence of Pickens would be massive for Jake Fromm and Georgia’s offense. The top four receivers from 2018 are gone: Mecole Hardman (left for NFL), Riley Ridley (left for the NFL), Terry Godwin (graduated) and Jeremiah Holloman (kicked off team). Therefore, Pickens could be a prime candidate to become a breakout weapon for the Bulldogs.

Recently, UGA defensive back Richard LeCounte said that Pickens reminded him of A.J. Green. Comparisons like that are to be taken with a grain of salt, but after catches like this, we get it.

“He’s got really big, strong hands,” UGA safety Richard LeCounte said of Pickens. “Reminds you of an A.J. Green with his skill-set to adjust to the ball in the air.”

LeCounte appears to be right on the money with this comparison of Pickens.
