When a kicker goes 4-for-4, including a 50-yard field goal, a coach is often impressed. Especially if that coach is Alabama’s Nick Saban.

Freshman Will Reichard was that kicker who was perfect in Alabama’s first scrimmage on Saturday, as he and fellow kicker Joseph Bulovas received praise from Saban. The same went for punter Skyler DeLong.

“They did really well today,” said Saban, according to video from AL.com. “I don’t know exactly what the stats were, but both punters — Will (Reichard) and Skyler (DeLong) — both punted the ball really well. Will was really good on field goals. I think Joe (Bulovas) was pretty good on field goals.”

Bulovas is in his third season with Alabama after he redshirted in 2017. He holds the Alabama single-season PAT leader with 75 made. Reichard was the nation’s No. 1 kicker in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports Composite, Reichard enrolled early and was a member of the team in the spring. He has handled kicking and punting duties since he arrived on campus. DeLong had 16 punts last season and averaged 34 yards per punt.

Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News reported the numbers.

“There’s a lot of competition there,” Saban said, “but it was really encouraging.”
