Earlier this month, South Carolina unveiled Under Armour 1980s throwback uniforms for the 2019 season.

The Gamecocks had been teasing the uniforms for a time before they were unveiled, and at that time, the program didn’t specify when they will be debuted.

Thankfully, Will Muschamp announced that news on the South Carolina Gamecocks official YouTube channel Monday.

“It will be our first home game against Charleston Southern,” Muschamp said.

South Carolina’s head coach also explained the back story of how the Black Magic uniforms came to be.

“Under Armour approached us probably a couple of years ago about moving forward with some sort of throwback uniform,” Muschamp explained. “Of course, the first thing I thought of was the 1984 season, and that uniform is my favorite — the garnet helmet, the black jersey and white pants. And on the road, the white jersey, black pants and garnet helmet. So, we went with that and excited about that. I know our players are and I know our Gamecock family is.”

South Carolina kicks off the 2019 season Saturday against North Carolina in Charlotte at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN.
