A flurry of bad news this week should have Alabama fans and players ready for kickoff.

Four-star defensive back Javier Morton (Stone Mountain, Ga.) announced Wednesday that he has decommitted from the University of Alabama.

“I am decommitted from The University Of Alabama… Respect my decision,” he wrote on Twitter.

With Morton’s decommitment, Alabama has 22 players who have given a verbal pledge in the class of 2020. Morton is rated a 4-star prospect and ranks as the nation’s No. 20 overall safety and the state of Georgia’s No. 22 player, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Alabama and Morton had appeared to be going their separate ways, and Wednesday made it official. He had been committed to Alabama the longest of anyone in the 2020 class (December of 2017).

Morton holds offers from Auburn and Colorado, among others.

The Tide’s recruiting class ranks No. 2 in the nation for the class of 2020.
