Kirk Herbstreit will get a first-hand look at both LSU and Texas Saturday night. Herbstreit, Rece Davis and Maria Taylor will have the call on ESPN.

College GameDay is going back to Austin, Texas, for the first time in 10 years. That obviously explains the rebuilding process that has taken place at Texas.

New-look LSU traveling to a revamped Texas program is must-watch college football. It’s a huge game in the national picture, and it’s also an important game for conference supremacy.

Recently on the Herbstreit and Pollack ESPN podcast, Herbstreit explained the significance of Saturday’s matchup.

“Both teams are thinking about the Playoff. Both teams are thinking about trying to win their conference. Both teams need to win this game really to try and achieve their long-term goals,” Herbstreit said. “So, you put two teams on the field with that same mind, it should be a lot of fun Saturday night.”

Specifically for LSU, Herbstreit is excited to see quarterback Joe Burrow and the Tigers’ new-look offense under assistant Joe Brady.

“For LSU, I’m excited to watch Joe Burrow with what Joe Brady is doing with him since coming over with the Saints,” Herbstreit said. “This new RPO game and what Burrow will be able to do with it. He was on fire last week. I know it was a lesser opponent, but kind of like Jalen Hurts — 23-of-27, five touchdown passes and 278 yards. So, I don’t care if it’s against air. That’s a pretty good day throwing the football. So, Burrow and this new offense and all the athletes that LSU has.”

Herbstreit is also intrigued to the new energy in Austin, something he says wasn’t even there during the Mack Brown years.

“They also have found this new energy at home games, even when they were winning in their really dominant years with Mack Brown. That was never what I would have called an intimidating atmosphere in Austin. I think based on what I’ve seen last year, they’ve made some inroads to make that a very difficult place to play.”

LSU and Texas kickoff Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
