Former Auburn legend Cam Newton has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, the Carolina Panthers announced Friday. Newton aggravated a foot injury in last Thursday’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In two starts, Newton has completed 56.2 percent of his passes for 572 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

In his place, former Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen will get the start against former Aggies teammate, Arizona Cardinals No. 1 pick Kyler Murray. The 23-year old Allen played two seasons in College Station before transferring to the University of Houston.

The Panthers head into Week 3 in desperate need for a victory. Carolina is 0-2 and at the bottom of the NFC South standings.

Earlier this week, Panthers coach Ron Rivera walked out of his press conference frustrated with Newton injury questions.
