Two Tennessee football players appear to be taking their college careers in a different direction.

According to Vols insider John Brice, junior linebacker Shannon Reid and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jacquez Jones have both entered the NCAA transfer portal. Now, other schools can begin to contact Reid and Jones about potentially transferring.

Reid and Jones were both absent from Tennessee practice on Tuesday, according to Eric Cain of Sports Radio WNML. Both players have gotten into games for the Vols this season, and it’s likely there will be other schools with interest.

After playing nine games as a reserve linebacker and on special teams last season, Reid has 11 tackles through four games this year. He set a career high with seven tackles during Tennessee’s win over Chattanooga on Sept. 14.

Reid was a former 3-star recruit who has been with the Vols the past three seasons.

Jones didn’t play in a game during his first two seasons at Tennessee, redshirting in 2017 due to injury. He has only touched the ball once so far this year, when he had a 9-yard rush in a loss to BYU on Sept. 7.

Like Reid, Jones is also a former 3-star recruit.

The Vols will now move on without Reid and Jones and try to get their season back on track. Tennessee is 1-3 entering its bye this weekend. It will return to action on Oct. 5, when it hosts No. 3 Georgia at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
