There’s good news and bad news for the Arkansas backfield heading into Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.

During Wednesday’s weekly SEC coaches teleconference, Razorbacks head coach Chad Morris confirmed that running back T.J. Hammonds would play Saturday after returning from a four-game suspension. However, Morris later shared that Chase Hayden, Arkansas’ No. 3 running back behind Rakeem Boyd and Devwah Whaley, will miss the game and is in concussion protocol, according to Scottie Bordelon of WholeHogSports.com.

Hammonds, a redshirt junior, is in his fourth season with the Razorbacks. Over the past three years, he rushed for 286 yards and two touchdowns in limited action. However, he provides depth to Arkansas’ backfield and gives it another talented player to utilize.

“He will be a part of us and a part of our gameplan. I think we all know he’s incredibly fast, so he adds speed to our offense,” Morris said. “The way he handled it would be exactly what I expected … come out to work with a spectacular attitude. That’s what he did, so for that, I think he’s grown from the experience and we’re excited to have him back.”

Morris also shared that Hammonds could line up at receiver some to get more playing time.

Hayden, a junior, rushed for 500 yards and four touchdowns over the previous two seasons, but he’s been used mostly on special teams this year.

With these changes in the backfield depth for Saturday, Arkansas will look to upset No. 23 Texas A&M in a matchup that kicks off at noon ET on ESPN.
