Former Tennessee Volunteers standout Derek Barnett was flagged Thursday night for a vicious hit on Packers running back Jamaal Williams.

On the Packers first offensive series, quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed a pass to Williams out of the backfield, and he was stood up by an Eagles defender. Forward progress was stopped. Then, Barnett came in late with a running head start and hit Williams helmet-to-helmet and knocked him out cold. Barnett was flagged for unnecessary roughness, and Williams laid motionless on the field as players called for trainers.

Sadly, Williams was carted off the field on a stretcher following the hit. It’s worth noting that Barnett came over and spoke to Williams as he was being carted off, and Williams did raise his thumb.

Furthermore, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Williams is being transported to a local hospital.

Following the hit, social media was calling for Barnett’s ejection.

The Eagles drafted Barnett in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In three career seasons, Barnett has made 35 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He’d most likely take that one back if he had the opportunity.
