Bob Shoop is one of the nation’s top defensive coordinators, but Saturday night didn’t reflect that.

Everyone was waiting on Auburn’s offense to have its coming out party, and everything clicked against Mississippi State. Auburn’s offense mounted 578 total yards of offense and scored 56 points. Freshman quarterback Bo Nix completed 16-of-21 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers rushing attack combined for 217 yards and six touchdowns.

That will leave a defense and a coordinator reeling. The Bulldogs defensive unit didn’t know what hit them Saturday night, and after reflecting on the loss and watching film, MSU’s defensive coordinator apologized on social media for the loss.

“BulldogNation—Last night was very disappointing in Auburn- I apologize. We all will learn n grow from that. In life, there is no lose-you either win or you learn. We own our mistakes and learn from them. We will use our bye week to continue to grow n develop. #hailstateforever,” Shoop wrote on Twitter.

Mississippi State will go into the bye week with much to work on, and then it returns against Shoop’s former team Tennessee on October 12.
