In one of the more clear matchups to preview a game this season, how Florida handles Auburn’s vaunted defensive line will likely go a long way to determining how the Gators fare on Saturday.

Greg McElroy, of ESPN and the SEC Network, believes he can draw a parallel between Florida’s game with Mississippi State last year, and this week’s game in Gainesville. Florida beat MSU last year, 13-6.

“If you guys want a preview of Auburn/Florida this weekend, I recommend watching the Gator’s offensive game plan vs Mississippi St in ‘18,” McElroy tweeted. “Short passing game, stress the perimeter and toss in 1-2 trick plays. MSU had elite DL it helped neutralize them. Gonna be a physical game!”

It’s true that there have been regular comparisons between Mississippi State’s defensive line last year, and Auburn’s this year. McElroy isn’t the only one to make this comparison.

However, two immediate differences outside of that are Florida QB Emory Jones, who could be an x-factor, and Auburn’s playmakers on offense. Nick Fitzgerald had just 98 yards passing last year against Florida, and the Bulldogs rushed for just 104 yards.

Auburn is listed as a 2.5-point favorite in the game, which is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on CBS from Gainesville. ESPN’s “College GameDay” will also be in Florida to preview the game. This is the first meeting in the series since 2011.
