It wasn’t that long ago that Georgia was in a very bad place. Just a few weeks ago, the Bulldogs lost to South Carolina and then struggled against Kentucky, which led to many fans doubting whether Georgia would earn a trip to the SEC Championship Game let alone a College Football Playoff bid.

But the Bulldogs worked through their struggles and knocked off rival Florida last week. Georgia was the highest-rated one-loss team in the first College Football Playoff rankings this past Tuesday, and the team controls its own destiny in the final month of the season.

On Friday, ESPN personality Paul Finebaum asked college football analyst Todd McShay how Georgia came out the other side of the South Carolina loss even stronger. McShay had a simple answer — Jake Fromm.

“They view the loss they had against South Carolina as a growing experience,” McShay said. “I’ve never been around a quarterback in meetings that’s impressed me more than Jake Fromm, and everyone in the program agrees.

“There’s a reason why there were a couple other high-profiled quarterbacks that were there, 5-stars, and wound up leaving because Fromm is just so intelligent. He understands the game. He knows what to do. He gets everyone lined up. He makes the protection calls, pre-snap reads. He gets them out of bad plays into good plays, and when you sit with him and talk to him, he’s so comfortable in his own skin. You kind of understand why everyone in the building loves being around him.”

That’s quite a ringing endorsement, and hard to disagree. Fromm was outstanding against Florida last week, completing 20 of 30 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. With him behind center, Georgia converted 12 of 18 third-down attempts last Saturday, which was a major factor in its win.

If Fromm and Georgia take care of business this month, they will have another shot at the SEC Championship Game in December.
