Alabama basketball received another setback Monday when the school announced that the NCAA had denied the eligibility appeal of former Villanova point guard Jahvon Quinerly, a one-time 5-star prospect.

Late last month, Alabama appealed the original denial on behalf of Quinerly, who is ranked No. 5 among ESPN’s top sit-out transfers. But now Quinerly will have to sit out the 2019-20 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Quinerly, a 6-foot-1 New Jersey native, was a McDonald’s All-American in the class of 2018.

“We can’t begin to express how disappointed we are in this decision,” the Alabama statement from Athletics Director Greg Byrne and coach Nate Oats said, according to Cecil Hurt. “Jahvon and his family have been through a set of circumstances that no student-athlete in the history of the NCAA has experienced. Their name has been falsely dragged through the mud for two years, and we felt confident that the NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief would recognize this very unique set of circumstances.”
