Following its big victory at Tuscaloosa last week, LSU moved up to No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night. Tigers coach Ed Orgeron admitted that’s where he wants his team to be, but that it can’t change his team’s focus.

“Everyone sees it,” Orgeron said during his Wednesday teleconference. “But that doesn’t mean anything going into Ole Miss.”

Orgeron also said he won’t be addressing the No. 1 ranking in front of his team. However, he did add that the victory against Alabama was the biggest of his career. Orgeron has been coaching since 1984.

Here’s what else he had to say to the media on Wednesday:

  • Improvement from his Ole Miss: It was a great opportunity, I appreciated it. I learned what to do, what not to do. I learned through adversity, I learned what I could do what I could not do… after my time there, I changed some things I did, I have a staff that I believe in.
  • On Matt Luke: Outstanding coach, very enthusiastic, great recruiter… He showed me the state of Mississippi, He loves the Univ of Miss, great choice for Ole Miss.
  • On Rashard Lawrence: I think he is playing his best football. He is a great leader, wanted to win championships. He has a tenacious way about him… he is helping our football team.
  • With 3 of the top 5 in the CFP, what does it mean to play in high profile games? The best players want to come in the SEC, especially the SEC West. We have the most draft choices… now with the offenses we have, they want to play in those. they understand the challenges of playing in the SEC.
  • On Chad Morris being fired: It’s a great place, my wife is from there, outstanding program. I feel bad for Coach Morris, I’ve been in that position, Coach Lunney, I’ve been there too. I believe he can rally the team, I expect them to give us their best.
  • On the Arkansas job: Sure, it’s an outstanding job, fantastic facilities, great support.
  • On Declus: Still questionable, I think he could play if we need him. He’s 50/50 right now
  • On Kary Vincent: he’s questionable, I don’t know if he’s going to play or not.on Barry Lunney: Outstanding man, he loves the Razorbacks… I’m sure the players believe in him.
  • Was Saturday your biggest win in your career? Yes, but as far as me, it doesn’t matter. It’s never going to be about me, I’m for the team.
  • On development of Patrick Queen: Toughness, character, grit, learning to play the position of LB. He was a RB when we recruited him… he is a better football player than he has ever been. I’m close to his mother and father, he was raised the right way. It’s a product of how they raised him, how Dave Aranda coached him.
  • On Ole Miss defense: I’ve watched them a bunch because they play the teams that play us the week before… completely different defense this year… much like the defense we are playing right now.
