LSU LB Michael Divinity left the team for personal reasons before the Alabama game, but coach Ed Orgeron on Wednesday updated his status. Divinity has returned to the practice field this week.

Orgeron said on the SEC media teleconference that Divinity would not be eligible for the SEC Championship game, but, “I think that would come after a bowl, if there was another bowl — maybe a championship game, he may be eligible for that, until then, he will not be eligible to play.”

Orgeron also spoke about Todd Harris’ injury.

“It’s hurt us,” he said. “Todd was one of our best players…. our freshman cornerbacks now have to play safety, I don’t know if (Grant) Delpit will be ready, it has limited us on defense.”

This week, the Tigers play Arkansas and LSU’s struggles against the Razorbacks were brought up.

“Don’t underestimate them,” he said. “They always play well against LSU… We need to look at the things we need to do, we have not played up to our standard for 60 minutes, the LSU standard.”

Orgeron has been an interim coach before, so he understands what Arkansas is going through following the Chad Morris firing.

“I don’t think you can overhaul the system in one week and expect them to perform at a high level, but the coach will want to put his tweaks on things… just, I’m sure coach will add his flavor, whatever that may be,” he said.

Here’s what else Orgeron said on the call:

  • Is your offense better than even you thought it would be? I would say yes, I thought we would be really good… it’s way more advanced than I thought. The speed at the way our team has learned it and it has been taught has been phenomenal.
  • On big win over Alabama, is your team overconfidence? I think a regular team would have a letdown but we had a 21-point win over Ole Miss and I think I was the only won happy in the locker room… we are competing with ourselves to play to the LSU standard.
  • On Magnolia Trophy: We took it home, it’s in our trophy case.
  • On the Golden Boot Trophy: We put it right there in the old building, the boot is the first thing you see when you walk in the building… I think it’s about playing well after Alabama… it means a lot to our players to win this football game.
