Brandon Kennedy won’t be taking part in Tennessee’s Senior Day festivities on Saturday. That’s because the Vols center doesn’t plan on his college career being over quite yet.

On Tuesday, Kennedy told the media that he plans on returning for the 2020 season by filing paperwork for a medical sixth year of eligibility.

After redshirting in 2015 and playing sporadically the next two seasons, Kennedy missed nearly the entire 2018 season. He started the opener vs. West Virginia that year, but he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in practice that kept him out the rest of the season.

That’s why Kennedy should receive one more year of eligibility due to that lost season.

This season, Kennedy has started every game for Tennessee at center. When discussing his decision to return, he cited the Vols’ recent play as a factor in him wanting to come back.

After starting the season 2-5, Tennessee has won four straight games, notching victories over South Carolina, UAB, Kentucky and Missouri.

Kennedy and the Vols will look to cap the regular season with another win as they host Vanderbilt on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
