As LSU has steamrolled opponents ahead of the SEC Championship Game, the Heisman Trophy race increasingly seemed like a foregone conclusion. LSU QB Joe Burrow has been on the Heisman list for much of the season, but as other top teams have suffered losses, the Tigers golden boy has risen to the top.

That was cemented this week when a sportsbook, BetOnline.ag, did not release odds. Scott Rabalais of The Advocate went looking for answers: “Emailed guy who sends odds from http://BetOnline.ag. Asked why no odds on the Heisman Trophy this week. He said Joe Burrow is now such a favorite it’s off the board.”

Burrow has become the prince of the Bayou this season and his latest performance, a 50-7 rout of Texas A&M, was 352 yards and three touchdowns passing, which gave the Tigers their first unbeaten regular season since 2011.

Burrow got the crowd going in pregame Senior Day festivities last week when he wore a custom “Burreaux” jersey to show his love to the Cajun faithful in Tiger Stadium.

Burrow has 4,366 yards and 44 touchdowns passing this season, and he’s blown away LSU single-season records in both categories. Burrow’s yards passing total also broke the SEC record, which was set in 1998 by former Kentucky QB Tim Couch, who passed for 4,275 yards.
