Mike Bobo is the new offensive coordinator at South Carolina, and it sounds as though Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp couldn’t be more pleased.

“I’m excited to bring Mike on board,” said Muschamp. “He is a proven and respected play-caller and quarterbacks coach, who I have faced many times over the years. Over the last 13 years, his offenses have averaged over 31 points and 424 yards per game while converting over 43 percent on third down. He also has a long relationship with both (running backs coach) Thomas Brown and (wide receivers coach) Bryan McClendon, so it will be a smooth transition for our offensive staff.”

McClendon served as South Carolina offensive coordinator last year, but he will now exclusive coach the wide receivers.

Muschamp and Bobo’s relationship dates back to when the two played together at Georgia in the mid-1990’s. Bobo stepped down as head coach at Colorado State last month. He posted a 28-35 record with the Rams in five seasons.

Prior to that, Bobo served as Georgia’s offensive coordinator from 2007-14 and Georgia’s quarterbacks coach from 2001-06. He will also coach the South Carolina quarterbacks next year.
