LSU's Ed Orgeron honored as national Coach of the Year
Hours after the SEC named Ed Orgeron the conferences’ Coach of the Year, the LSU coach picked up a national honor. Orgeron has been named the Home Depot College Coach of the Year, the first Tigers coach to win in the award’s 26-season history since Les Miles in 2011. Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly was the winner for 2018.
Orgeron’s Tigers won the SEC Championship and earned a College Football Playoff berth by going a perfect 13-0 heading into the Peach Bowl, notching wins over five top-10 teams along the way. The No. 1 Tigers will face No. 4 Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Dec. 28 in Atlanta.
Orgeron has the chance to add to his “Coach of the Year” tally as he is a finalist for other awards, including The Dodd Trophy and the Eddie Robinson Award.
