Lane Kiffin has reached back to his Alabama roots to fill out his support staff at Ole Miss.

Matt Zenitz of AL.com reported: “Source: Former Alabama tight end Michael Nysewander is expected to join Lane Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss as an analyst. Was Samford’s running backs coach this past season. Prior to that, worked under Kiffin at FAU.”

Described as a popular figure on the 2015 national championship team, Nysewander last week tweeted: “So proud to have been apart of Samford University this past season. It was an honor and privilege to coach the RB’s this past year under one of the best Head Coaches to do it! Excited for the next opportunity ahead!”

Nysewander joined the Florida Atlantic offensive and special teams staff in the spring of 2017, and ultimately moved to Assistant Director of Player Development. This came after he briefly signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent.

At Alabama, he was known as “Highway 46” for his ability as a lead blocker to open the road for the running backs.

In his FAU bio, Alabama coach Nick Saban is quoted saying about Nysewander after an LSU win, “Everything that a football player or a competitor should be. He’s just one of those throwback players to me. You’ve got to love him. I get a smile on my face every time I talk about him. He’s just a tough grinder. He does a really good job for us on special teams and he’s a very productive fullback. He’s a fifth-year guy around here and he’s worked hard and it’s finally paying off for him.”
