A key LSU defensive assistant is reportedly joining Dave Aranda at Baylor.

Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reports that Dennis Johnson will be on Aranda’s staff as defensive line coach. Dellenger reports that the move to Baylor triples Johnson’s old salary.

An LSU graduate (2011), Johnson got into coaching in 2012 as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State. He coached the team’s linebackers in 2012 and secondary in 2013.

He was briefly on the Kentucky staff in 2014 before returning to LSU as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line. He was promoted to an on-field position as outside linebackers coach during the in-season 2016 coaching change. Johnson was moved to defensive line coach ahead of the 2018 season.

Johnson was on track to be LSU’s defensive line coach again for the 2019 season, but injuries he suffered playing pickup basketball forced him to move to an analyst role. Orgeron brought in long-time NFL assistant Bill Johnson to serve as the on-field defensive line coach in place of Dennis Johnson.
