Florida basketball officially plays on Billy Donovan Court.

The former Gators head coach returned to Gainesville for Saturday’s UF-Vanderbilt game while his Oklahoma City Thunder squad is off for NBA All-Star Weekend. Donovan spoke to reporters before the game and addressed a sold-out O’Dome crowd at halftime.

“For me, I’ve always said this, is it takes a lot of people to really contribute and help,” Donovan told reporters before the game. “I look at my name and there’s another name I could think of that would go right next to my name. From Anthony Grant, to John Pelphrey, to Larry Shyatt, to Brad Beal, to Al Horford, to Joakim Noah, to Jeremy Foley, to Jamie McCloskey, to Tom Williams. Everybody contributed. I’m just thankful that I was around such great people. I think that’s what it speaks to is the quality of people that I was fortunate enough to be around here at Florida.”

Donovan showed the same humility addressing the fans.

“I was blessed and fortunate to work for the greatest athletic director in the country, Jeremy Foley,” Donovan told the crowd.

He told his former players to consider it their court, too.

“When you look down at the court, see your name there because you were part of it. God bless and go Gators,” Donovan said.

The Gators were 467-186 during the Donovan era. UF won two national championships (2006, ’07), four SEC tournament championships (2005, ’06, ’07, ’14) and six regular-season conference titles (2000, ’01, ’07, ’13, ’14). Donovan’s squad reached the Final Four four times, with trips in 2000 and 2014 in addition to the two national championship seasons.

Fans and media members captured videos of the tribute to Donovan and the coach’s comments:

As for the actual game, Florida is enjoying a lead of over 20 points on Vanderbilt in the second half.
