The first Wednesday of February, National Signing Day, is considered the end of the recruiting cycle, but in the case of the class of 2020, one big name remains unsigned. The recruitment of 5-star RB Zach Evans has featured many twists and turns. The latest development has him visiting another SEC program: Florida.

According to Blake Alderman of 247Sports, Evans has locked in an official visit to UF for the weekend of March 20. Evans’ original final three appeared to be Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M. It was widely reported that Evans signed with UGA during December’s Early Signing Period, but was waiting to reveal his decision at the Jan. 2 Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando. Instead of announcing his commitment, Evans offered an apology to his college coaches in a TV interview.

“I want to apologize to my college coaches and apologize for the things that they are hearing,” Evans said during an in-game interview. “I’m really a good kid.”

It was later revealed that Evans was released from his signed Letter of Intent sent to Georgia. A player cannot sign a second LOI, meaning the next time Evans “signs” with a school, it will be papers related to enrollment and financial aid agreements. Ahead of National Signing Day, Evans took official visits to Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Florida did not sign a high school running back in its 2020 class. Lorenzo Lingard, a former 5-star recruit in the class of 2018, transferred from Miami to UF in January. This month, Florida hired away Tim Brewster from North Carolina as the new Gators tight ends coach. Brewster, who spent the 2018 season on Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M staff, has familiarity recruiting Evans.

Earlier this week, Rivals recruiting analyst Mike Farrell opined that if Evans “takes a visit to Florida and likes that visit, that’s his home.”
