Todd Gurley is headed home to the state of Georgia.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Gurley to a 1-year contract, the team announced Friday morning. Gurley was recently cut by the Los Angeles Rams, the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Gurley was set to receive an additional $10.5 million on his contract.

Obviously, this is a huge deal for the state of Georgia, and bringing Gurley to Atlanta will be one of the most popular signings of the offseason. For Atlanta fans, Gurley is an instant impact back who’s a difference-maker; for Georgia fans, they are ecstatic to bring home their former superstar.

Gurley joins Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley with the Falcons, and he’ll make that offense more potent, assuming he can stay healthy.

The deal got done quickly, too, and that’s more of a sign of mutual interest than anything.

Among the many reactions, Georgia football’s Twitter account had the perfect response to Gurley’s signing to Atlanta.

During his 3-year career at Georgia from 2012-15, Gurley rushed for 3,285 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also added 6 receiving touchdowns during his sophomore season of 2013.
