Vic Schaefer may be gone but he left Mississippi State’s women’s basketball program in outstanding shape following his eight years leading the program in Starkville.

The 3-time SEC Coach of the Year recently made the decision to job to Texas to coach the Longhorns women’s basketball program after leading the Bulldogs to a 221–62 overall record in his eight seasons in Starkville. Schaefer’s teams twice managed to make the Final Four and both times made it to the national championship game but did not manage to win the national title during those runs.

Mississippi State had reached the postseason five years in a row and would have made that six had the women’s tournament been played this season.

While some Hail State fans took issue with how Schaefer left Mississippi State, the program’s former coach at least made the effort to thank all the Bulldogs and the program’s fans with the following post on Twitter:
