One of the NFL Draft’s biggest surprises came on the last pick of the first round.

The Kansas City Chiefs could have gone a number of directions with this pick; however, it passed on Georgia running back D’Andre Swift and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor. Instead, it picked LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, as the Tigers star was the only back drafted in the first round.

CEH, as he’s nicknamed, is the complete package and a 3-down back for the Chiefs. His rise to stardom is similar to his teammate Joe Burrow, just not as shocking.

Following the Chiefs picking Edwards-Helaire, quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to social media to express his excitement for a new offensive weapon:

With the addition of Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs offense goes from scary to ridiculously loaded. Andy Reid gets a new toy to use on offense, and the Chiefs are thrilled to have him.

“The kid, his interior running ability, just the vision and the instincts are just rare and unique,” said Chiefs general manager Brett Veach on a conference call Thursday night. “The guy kind of has the ability to play the game in slow motion. Lateral, agility, vision, his ability to start and stop and redirect his hands out of the backfield, some of those guys, one guy may have one trait, the other guy has another trait. We felt like he kind of had all of those traits.”
