In addition to COVID and rivalry storylines, Alabama’s 41-24 win over Georgia on Saturday night was a milestone victory for Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban. With 86 wins over AP Top 25 opponents, Saban is now tied with Joe Paterno for most all-time.

It’s unclear, however, when Saban will get his next chance for win No. 87 over a ranked opponent. Heading into Saturday, Tennessee and Auburn were each ranked, but both squads suffered fell to 2-2 by losing to unranked opponents and may be voted out of the AP Top 25. The other remaining four opponents on UA’s schedule are Mississippi State (1-3), LSU (1-2), Kentucky (2-2) and Arkansas (2-2). There’s still a lot of football left to be played, so perhaps at least one more Alabama regular-season opponent will be ranked in the AP Top 25, but if not, Saban’s squad is on track to go to another SEC Championship Game.
