The appetite for live sports, and specifically college football, remains high, according to TV ratings released by CBS Sports.

The game between No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia pulled in an average of 9.611 million viewers, up +3% in viewers from last year’s comparable game (Notre Dame-Georgia on Sept. 21, 2019), making it the most-watched college football game of the season on any network. It was also the most-watched program of the day on any network, ViacomCBS reported.

Alabama-Georgia was also the highest-rated non-NFL sporting event since the return to live sports in May, the company reported. Beating out the Notre Dame-Georgia game from 2019 was impressive because it was the highest-rated college football game on CBS in the month of September in six years with an average of 9.29 million viewers.

Meanwhile, the Georgia-Alabama game peaked with 12.046 million viewers from 9:45 to 10 p.m. ET.

The game turned when Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle caught a 90-yard touchdown pass en route to a strong performance of 161 yards on six catches. Alabama QB Jones completed 24 of 32 passes for 417 yards and was strong after an interception on the opening play. That was part of an Alabama rally that featured three touchdowns in a 10-minute span starting late in the third quarter.
