A long punt is often referred to as flipping the field. In most cases, that doesn’t mean kicking it from end zone to end zone. Texas Tech’s Austin McNamara, however, did just in the Red Raiders’ victory over West Virginia on Saturday.
In the third quarter, with the game tied 27-27, Texas Tech punted from its own 13-yard line. As you can see in the video below, McNamara kicked from about his own goal line. McNamara absolutely boomed his punt. With some help from the wind plus a good roll, the ball went all the way out of the back of the opposite end zone, traveling 110 yards. On the stat sheet, it’s an 87-yard punt.
Texas Tech went on to win 34-27.
