Brenton Cox could play a key role in the huge SEC East game on Saturday in Jacksonville, as the Florida linebacker is notable largely because of his transfer from Georgia.

Both coaches were asked about his impact on the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday.

Florida coach Dan Mullen said Cox is part of the changing landscape of transfers in college football.

“Over the last several years how you evaluate transfers to me has changed,” Mullen said. “There’s a lot more guys transfer in these days so you evaluate the transfers very differently than you used to and Brenton has done a great job for us you know one of the things I think he’s been SEC Academic or honor roll every semester since he’s been here. He’s been a great student athlete that takes care of his business in the classroom.

Mullen added that Cox had a great attitude when he arrived last year, and not being able to play last year is showing this year. To be a first-year starter hasn’t been easy, but he’s overcome that and done a great job so far, the coach said.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said he’s not aggravated by Cox and that players have a decision to make.

“Brenton is playing really well, explosive pass rusher… he plays hard, hard to block, they put him in good position to make plays… he’s playing really well… he will create issues for us,” Smart said.
