Since defeating defending national champ LSU in Week 1, Year 1 under Mike Leach hasn’t gone well for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs managed to snap their losing skid with a 24-17 win over Vanderbilt, but it was ugly.

In defeat, the Commodores out-gained MSU 478-204 in total yardage. As one would expect, Leach and his staff are facing some criticism for the lackluster offense. The Pirate is not amused. In a lengthy answer during his postgame press conference, Leach raised eyebrows calling out “impatient” fans:

“…But, you know, those that aren’t onboard are impatient. Maybe they can select another team or maybe they can go coach their own team and I think that you can evaluate how their team does and see how it all shakes out.”

SEC Network analyst Gene Chizik shared his reaction to Leach’s comments on “SEC Football Final”.

“Fans don’t really understand,” Chizik said. “We know they really get upset, but the bottom line is they don’t get near as upset as the players who put in 20 hours a week trying to get ready for the game, the coaches who feed their families that way. His point is well taken. Players and coaches are more upset, exponentially more upset than any fan ever thinks about being. But I will say this about Mike Leach. He’s going to say what he thinks. He doesn’t really care what you think. He’s going to coach the way he coaches. He’s not going to change. I respect that a little bit.”

Leach’s Bulldogs will look to get the offense back on track against Auburn on Saturday.
