Will the Heisman Trophy be decided on Dec. 19 in Atlanta? Florida’s Kyle Trask and Alabama’s Mac Jones may determine if that’s the case.

Trask has vaulted at least into the conversation, if not higher, as ESPN’s Heisman Watch pegged this week’s headline: “Time to consider Kyle Trask a real contender.”

For the first time this season, Trask topped the Heisman Watch, an ongoing poll from 13 voters at ESPN. Trask is coming off of a sixth straight game with 4-plus passing TDs. Against Arkansas last week, Trask threw five first-half TD passes and threw for 356 yards. Florida coach Dan Mullen has said that Trask’s chances at the Heisman Trophy will be tied to how well the Gators finish the season as a team.

Jones, meanwhile, has put up 16 TDs, just two interceptions and more than 2,000 yards passing.

ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. added, “He just keeps improving. I have been so impressed by his deep-ball accuracy and ability to stand in the pocket and make throws under pressure. I didn’t see him as a potential first-round pick last year when he took over after Tua Tagovailoa’s injury, but he has made his case so far through six games.”

Other contenders for the trophy include Ohio State’s Justin Fields, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, BYU’s Zach Wilson. For even more dark horse candidates, look at Najee Harris, RB, Alabama, DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama, Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa and Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson.
