A top 30 player in the state of Georgia in the Class of 2022 made his commitment to Kirby Smart’s program on Thursday, the second player in as many days to commit to play for the home state Bulldogs.

Darris Smith of Baxley (Appling County) chose Georgia out of 12 reported offers to date and is listed as a 3-star recruit for 247Sports and as the nation’s No. 17 weak-side defensive end and the No. 27 recruit in Georgia for 2022.

Smith is listed at 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, and followed Tift County’s Tyre West, a defensive tackle, who committed to Georgia on Wednesday for the 2022 class. The Bulldogs have 5 commitments to date for 2022.

Smith reportedly received the Georgia offer in October. He shared part of why he committed to Georgia with Chad Simmons of Rivals.

“I am just excited about committing to big school like Georgia and it feels like a big dream right now,” he said. “I was always a fan of Georgia and that is a big reason why I committed. They are the home-state team, we run the same defense they do and the coaches are awesome. We have been talking about what it would be like there, how practice would be and things like that. I am excited about it.”
