Texas A&M has caught Kirk Herbstreit’s attention.

The Aggies landed at No. 3 on Herbstreit’s list of top performers this week following their 31-20 win at Auburn over the weekend.

This was one of Texas A&M’s best victories of the season. The Aggies’ defense limited the Tigers to just 340 yards of offense, including just 144 yards through the air.

Meanwhile, the Aggies gained 509 yards and quarterback Kellen Mond was an efficient 18-of-23 for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Texas A&M also excelled on third down, converting 7-of-11 opportunities.

On the ground, it was perhaps Texas A&M’s most impressive game of the season. The Aggies averaged 6.7 yards per rush and were lead by Isaiah Spiller’s 120-yard day. Devon Achane added 99 yards on nine carries and Mond had 66 yards on 10 attempts.

Texas A&M’s only loss is to Alabama, which means it will not compete in the SEC Championship Game next week. However, it could be in a position to qualify for the College Football Playoff if one of the current leaders slips up.

Jimbo Fisher’s squad is scheduled to finish out the year with Ole Miss and Tennessee.
